HBOT and Bone Healing
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (or HBOT) increases and improves bone regeneration. Those that have suffered sports injuries, as well as post radiation complications that affect the bone can receive and benefit from HBOT.
100% medical grade oxygen under slight pressure in a hyperbaric chamber promotes bone healing, due to the increased levels of oxygen in blood cells. On an injured bone, HBOT improves the healing process by increasing collagen formation and increasing the activity of the osteoclast and osteoblast of the bone matrix. Old cells die off, within the bone, and new bone cells will form. HBOT facilitates bone regeneration in many circumstances. Here https://bit.ly/3xbAT2g explains how HBOT can assist in bone healing and regeneration.
In bones, fibroblasts are located in connective tissue. These secrete collagen proteins. When they are given more oxygen, collagen production increases, and healing can occur. If there is bone death, for instance after radiation therapy, increased oxygen supply from a hyperbaric chamber will be able to increase blood supply to the damaged tissue and bone, especially in conjunction with bone grafting treatments.
Other cells like osteoblasts and osteoclasts are involved in bone repair. These types of cells work together to heal the bone tissue. It has been observed that when HBOT is applied, the osteoblast formation was seen to increase in patients. Then, the affect on osteoclasts increase as well. The osteoclasts are responsible for bone reabsorption. These work together in bone repair. One of our bone healing patients, Dorina Vaccaroni, broke her tibia in a cycling race. As an athlete, she was disappointed that she might have to stop working for 2 months to let it heal. She heard that hyperbaric therapy is good for bones, so she found us online. She came to Advanced Hyperbaric Recovery INC. After about 10 days, she went back to her doctor to see if she needed an X-ray, and it was no longer needed. She was incredibly grateful! Here’s the full testimonial: https://bit.ly/3nNNXba
HBOT has real world applications. Supplying oxygen to non-healing wounds, meaning any injury that does not heal correctly or at all, can begin the healing process to the wound at the cellular level. Patients enjoy a relaxing experience in their chamber during the treatment process. Advanced Hyperbaric Recovery INC is a woman-owned, award-winning hyperbaric oxygen clinic.
